Accessibility – recreational areas

Dataset

The Norwegian Mapping Authority maps universal design and accessibility in towns, district centers and recreational areas and publishes all data. The data show how the place is designed in respect to accessibility for people with reduced mobility and impaired vision. The data-set is a contribution to the national goal of a universally designed society by 2025. All people with disabilities or special needs, temporary or permanent, should be able to be as independent as possible and safe. By that, the project is a contribution towards promoting public health and inclusion. The aim of a national mapping project is to ensure consistent and comparable recording of populated areas and recreational areas throughout the country.

Specific usage

The data-set should act as a base for spatial planning and administration within the municipality, statistics and analysis of the current state of accessibility. Additionally, it can provide a tool for "end-users" such as organisations and other stakeholders to retrieve information on accessibility and potential barriers preventing access.

Help

Data collection is focused on two user groups: People with reduced mobility and people with impaired vision. When mapping recreational areas, the recreational areas itself and various recreational objects are mapped irrespective of whether they are inside or outside a recreational areas. This mapping is focused on areas and objects in the vicinity of populated areas and on those that already have a high degree of accessibility or the potential for it. The objects mapped are: ramps to swimming areas, fishing ramps, recreational areas, cabins, barbecue/bonfire spots, disabled parking, parking areas, picnic spots with benches, toilets, hiking trails. The accessibility status is divided into three groups: "Accessible", "Reduced accessibility" and "Inaccessible".
